How does TravelTree handle Markups vs. Margins?
We support both. You can choose to apply a Markup % (adding a percentage on top of your net cost) or a Margin % (setting the desired profit percentage of the final selling price). You can apply these globally to the whole trip or individually to specific services
Can I apply different markups to different types of services?
Yes. You might want a 20% margin on accommodation but only 10% on transfers. TravelTree allows you to set specific markup rules for different service categories, giving you granular control over your profitability.
How do you handle "Single Supplements"?
Easily. The system automatically calculates the price difference for a solo traveler versus a couple, ensuring your single supplement logic is accurate without manual math.
Can I create tiered pricing for different group sizes?
Absolutely. You can generate a “matrix” quote that shows the price per person for different group sizes (e.g., “Price per person for 2 travelers” vs. “Price per person for 10 travelers”). The system spreads fixed costs (like a tour guide or bus) across the number of participants automatically.
Can I add hidden internal costs?
Yes. You can instantly hide individual line-item prices using a simple checkbox. These costs are still calculated into the total package price — ensuring your margins are covered — but they remain completely invisible on the client’s final itinerary to keep the presentation clean.
Multi-Currency & Exchange Rates
I pay suppliers in USD but sell to clients in Euros. Can TravelTree handle this?
Yes. You can input the Net Cost of every individual item in its source currency (USD, JPY, GBP, etc.). You then select a “Selling Currency” for the quote (EUR). The system converts the total automatically based on the exchange rate you define.
Where do you get your exchange rates?
TravelTree automatically syncs live daily exchange rates from the source of your choice. However, you always have the final say: stick to the live rate, add a ‘Protection Rate’ buffer, or manually set a custom rate for individual quotes.
What happens if the exchange rate changes after I send the quote?
Once a quote is sent, the price is fixed for your client. However, internally, you can see how live currency fluctuations are affecting your projected margin in real-time until the booking is paid and finalized.
Commissions & B2B
I am a DMC. Can I include a commission for the Travel Agent I am selling to?
Yes. TravelTree is built for B2C and B2B. You can structure your price as: Net Cost + Your Markup = Net to Agent + Agent Commission = Gross Selling Price.
Taxes & Fees
Does the system calculate VAT?
Yes. You can set default VAT percentages for different types of services (e.g., reduced VAT for hotels vs. standard VAT for transport). The system calculates the tax liability on your invoices automatically.
How do you handle City Taxes or Resort Fees?
You can mark specific fees as “Payable Locally.” These costs will appear on the itinerary so the client is aware of them, but they will not be added to the total invoice amount that the client pays to you.
What the Client Sees
Will my client see my individual supplier costs?
Never. Your Net costs and individual markups remain strictly confidential. You decide how pricing is presented: either as a single total package price (with a list of inclusions/exclusions) or as an itemized breakdown showing the gross price for each service.
If a client adds an optional activity, does the price update automatically?
Yes! If you send an interactive TravelTree web itinerary, the client can toggle “Optional Extras” (like a balloon ride or room upgrade) on or off. The total price at the bottom of the page updates instantly, allowing them to see how upgrades affect their budget.
Can I round the final price?
Yes. Nobody likes a price like $5,432.17. The system automatically rounds up the client’s gross price to the nearest whole number for a cleaner, more professional look.
